Deer Valley Athletic Club has a long history in the High Country. It all began in 1987 with 6 outdoor courts and a trailer for an office. Today, Deer Valley has six outdoor hard- tru clay courts, 3 indoor courts, half-court basketball, a full fitness area, racquetball, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Additionally, the upstairs houses our Pilates, massage and High Country Greek restaurant.
Our tennis community is the largest of its kind in the High Country. We strive to be a competitive and fun environment for all levels of tennis players.
We are excited to offer new programs to include a health, wellness and personal training program, gymnastics and cheer camps.
Our goal for Deer Valley is to continue to provide exceptional services for individuals and families that help to increase the health and wellness for both children and adults.
We are excited for this year with new tournaments, new classes and fun events. We look forward to seeing at THE premier club of the High Country!
Although Brent and Halle Pilkington just recently bought Deer Valley in January 2020, they are not new to the club. Having been members since 2006, they have loved being able to be a part of the family atmosphere Deer Valley has always had. Both Brent and Halle bring lots of skill sets to the club. Brent has been in the High Country his whole life. He attended Appalachian State and has a long history as a local commercial and residential real estate agent. Halle graduated from Appalachian State in 1995 with a degree in Hospitality Management. After having children, she returned to Appalachian and received a master’s degree in education. Both Brent and Halle enjoy their family (raising five kids 9-21 yrs old) and are excited to begin this new journey as owners at Deer Valley.
Grace grew up in the small town of Cullowhee, North Carolina. She has always had a strong passion for health and fitness. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Appalachian State in Health Promotion with a minor in Nutrition in 2016. She loves helping other people reach their goals and realize all the benefits of exercise.
She was a competitive gymnast for most of her childhood. Starting at the age of 4 and continuing until the age of 16, when she began competitive cheerleading. She started coaching gymnastics and tumbling classes after graduating college, and has continued to do so. Grace loves teaching group classes as well as working one on one with kids to help them gain skills.
Grace is the Club Manager and Membership Director at Deer Valley overseeing the clubs programs and working to promote membership in the community.
Adam Smith is a native of Granite Falls, NC. Adam played basketball and baseball from the age of 4-15. He was then introduced to the sport of tennis at the age of 15. Adam quickly learned how much of a passion he had for the sport. A few years later he attended Spartanburg Methodist College for a year where he played on scholarship. He then took an opportunity at the age of 19 to become a director of tennis at Cedar Rock Country Club. He also coached boys and girls tennis at Hibriten High School for a combined 6 seasons. Adam has a huge passion for tennis and his drive is unmatched. Adam hopes to propel tennis to new heights here at Deer Valley.
Hampton was born and raised in Winston - Salem, North Carolina and is a Junior at Appalachian State University. She began gymnastics at the age of 5 and transitioned into competitive cheerleading at the age of 9. Hampton began junior coaching at age 13 and has continued ever since! Ham has always had a passion for fitness, exercise, and healthy living and is excited to work with everyone at the club!
Bob was the Director of Tennis and Club Manager at Yonahlossee Racquet Club from 1987 - 2010. He also coached the Appalachian State Men's Tennis Team from 2000 - 2018 with an overall record of 208 wins and 185 losses. He is a six time North Carolina State doubles champion and three time Southern Doubles champ. In the summers when he is not at DVAC, he is the Tennis and Club Manager at the Casino in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he has served since 2010.
Jane became a member of Deer Valley when she married her husband, Logan Freeman. Logan "required" that she learned to play tennis, and she fell in love with it, Boone, and DV. Jane's educational background includes degrees in Biology, Analytical Chemistry, and Science Education; however, her passion is health and wellness. She is an ISSA certified personal trainer and has nutrition and health coaching certifications from Cornell University and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Jane is excited to launch DV's new Health Nut initiative, which includes nutrition coaching and cooking classes as well as helpful videos and a blog. Her goal is to help members add years to their life and life to their years!
